We came to this place because our movie was sold out. We were going to go see TrainWreck. There was plenty of outdoor seating available at 7:40 pm. The service staff was very nice. We ordered Goat cheese Chicken, which came with various veggies and delicious mashed potatoes. My husband got one of the salads with an interesting vinaigrette dressing plus a portion of haggis. We had ordered a scotch egg for an appetizer but it never came. When we pointed it out to the server he apologized and we said to just cancel it. Almost immediately the manager came to our table , apologized and offered one at no cost to us, to go. We accepted. The food was really good and the service friendly. We will return.

I had very high expectations for McAllister's due to the great reviews and the Mainstreet location. However, the food experience was a bit underwhelming. Not awful but not as expected. The Scottish theme is cool & our server was enthusiastic & knowledgable. They have tv's & a nice outdoor sitting area. But about the food; it's over priced for the quality. I LOVE bread & I didn't even eat the complimentary warm bread they offered (it wasn't anything special). I ordered the Salmon Florentine; the salmon & the spinach w/mushrooms were cooked perfectly & very flavorful but the rice & vegetables were awful (they both seemed to be cold, not very fresh, leftoverish). My husband ordered their most popular fish & chips; it was a huge portion & very fresh. It was also tasty but the breading kept falling off. Definitely not worth $16.99; maybe $8.99-$10.99. We've clearly had better meals for much less. Very disappointing! We probably won't return. If I go back it'll be to try the chicken potpie. Also, there was a couple that wasn't happy with their salad & had voiced that to a manager who was very attentive & apologetic. The manager offered to replace the salad & offered a dessert. I was impressed by his desire to offer a great experience.

This may be the best restaurant in Lakewood Ranch...but competition really is not stiff in the town center. MacAllisters offers the best you can get there though: good atmosphere and good food. They have a nice outdoor seating area which draws a good crowd. The restaurant inside is cavernous and dark, but very welcoming. Stone walls, lots of wood, good energy inside. We've eaten here several times over the past few years and it's always consistent. The kitchen cooked my salmon perfectly medium as I requested. The bar food apps and burgers are always a sure thing. Aside from the salmon, I would steer away from the other seafood. Our scallops and calamari were not the most appetizing or appealing, but then again, seafood is not their forte. It's certainly respectable they've included it along with a good variety of items to please the palettes of as many diners as possible. Service depends greatly on luck of the draw, but everyone is great for the most part. I would recommend you keep an eye on outdoor tables if you are waiting at a cocktail table outside, which by the way are for drinks only. The last time we were here our party of four waited an hour because the server and hostesses gave the four top to a two top who just walked up while a two top was open. It's like the meme, "You only have one job!" They couldn't do it, so beware.

Have you try their seafood chowder yet?! It was INSANE that I wish I ordered TWO for each of us instead of sharing!! it tasted like homemade from a grandma's house!!

Best food and service in Main Street Lakewood Ranch. Great comfort food that uses fairly high quality ingredients and good cookery. Flavors are great. Veggies are usually slightly over cooked but I think the older clientele prefer them that way. The staff is incredible. We have been here 3-4 times and are consistently impressed by the professionalism, knowledge, speed, and attentiveness of the staff. From someone who used to be a server in fine dining, I give them very high praise.

Stopped in after an early movie last night. Haven't been since new owners took over. Food has significantly improved. Menu items are the same, I believe, but quality of the food was far superior. I had the autumnal salad with mixed greens, butternut squash, goat cheese and cranberries, homemade dressing, I added a blackened piece of salmon that was excellent. Hubby had bangers and mash, ate it all and said it was great (he's a tough customer). Kids enjoyed their burger and chicken with fries, you could tell the batter was fresh on the chicken and it had the same look as the fish n chips breading. Restaurant looks a little brighter and the service was good. If you haven't been in a while, give it another try, I think you will be pleasant, surprised!

They boast a new menu but I see nothing new.I ordered chicken pot pie and it was mediocre at best.Would love to have some great restaurants at main street but this will not be the one.

This was my first time here, let alone in Lakewood Ranch, and I was impressed. They have a pretty good happy hour, as well as some reasonably priced regular deals on draft domestics and martinis. (Among the gross appletinis, chocolate-tinis and insert-extra-sugary-mixer-tinis, they actually do include a regular old vodka martini on that list, which is a rarity anymore, and appreciated!) We were there on a Monday night hardly expecting places to be busy, but it was packed! Actually, all of the restaurants around the square were crowded. It's a huge place though with a big outdoor patio, so even with the crowd we were seated right away. Our server was great, and the fish and chips was delicious (and a giant portion). My favorite though was the salmon chowder. I was leery of salmon chowder having never heard of it before, but I'm SO glad I tried it. By far my favorite part of the meal.

I had the lamb burger and it was so juicy and tasty. The waitress was nice and attentive too. The food came out quick even though they were really busy that night.

In the past we always gave this place 5 stars because of the food and the great wait staff. The owners took care - especially in the bar to have friendly Servers who actually knew your name..That has changed since new-ownership came on board. The food is still great but at the bar we would love to come early before dinner and stay after because the guy's and gals had personality's who - took the time to talk to the customers. That made for 'atmosphere' and a lot more drinks being bought...NOW - the bar is under staffed with new faces almost every week and is being 'worked' like a take-out-joint....order eat and leave mentality. So that's what we do - eat have one drink (instead of 3 or 4 ) and leave. Please bring back the neighbor bar we loved and got used to. ....

Was in LWR looking for lunch and spotted MacAllister's. After remembering their name from ages ago when they did food for a Sarasota Film Festival event, it was an easy decision on where to eat. My guest and I were seated quickly and the bartender/server was super friendly. I elected the avocado and swiss burger, which included a cute basket of fries. Both items were absolutely delicious (so good I ended up taking half of my burger home!). Overall, solid food with great service and a fun atmosphere. I will surely make it a point to visit again soon!

Thus far we have been to MacAllisters five times, usually with guests or family members. Uniformly the food has been good, the service excellent and the price very reasonable. It was usually busy, but the staff was well trained. It has an interesting menu, including what I would describe as upscale bar food in addition to traditional entrees. Lamb burger is excellent. Portions are medium, not the usual overfilled American plate. So if you are looking to "bulk up" so you can get on the 600 pounder program, go elsewhere. It will save the furniture for others.

Solid experience at MacAllisters. In fairness, it is probably a 3.5 star place, but I liked it enough to round up. Came for dinner with my mom on Cinco de Mayo, which as we all know is the day that Mexico gained independence from Scotland, and therefore, a Scottish pub and grill seemed appropriate. We were able to get a seat outside, and apparently, the waiter was just triple sat, so the host got our drinks for us. Unfortunately, it was still another 10-15 minutes till our order was taken, which was aggravating, but we enjoyed ourselves enough that by the end of the meal, I had forgotten all about the initial wait to order. My mom got some sandwich - who knows, I wasn't paying attention, but she liked it a lot - and I got their Rob Roy, which was a grilled chicken sandwich with prosciutto and spicy mustard with fries. One of the better sandwiches I've gotten in a pub and grill in a while. I actually wasn't expecting much and was pleasantly surprised. Both sandwiches were under $10. You can spend more here if you go for one of their entrees, but you can also eat well without spending a fortune. They have a huge menu - not always a plus; sometimes it's better to have a small menu and do a few things very well instead of a lot of things just mediocre - but that also means they should have something for everyone. Plus with a small outdoor patio right on Lakewood Ranch main street, this is a really good place for a simple, quick meal.

The food was really good, service was excellent, but my Martini was very weak. They barely put alcohol in it. Such a shame because I could see myself going back here often. I ordered the Burger with fries. My wife ordered the Salmon BLT. Both tasted great, very fresh and made correctly. Our server Cassie was excellent, very attentive, kind, and in a great mood. My martini was $6.50, not bad, but hardly any alcohol. That was a huge let down. Go with the beers for $2.50-$4.00. You can't go wrong with beer. MacAllisters needs to train the bartenders better!

Wow! Went into this place today for first time with new owners. Place did not seem right. Service poor, Floors very sticky in many spots, There seem to be a old mildew odor. Very sad miss Karen & Malcolm so much! All there work to make it very close to 5 star establishment has drop so quickly after only 3 months to 1 - 2 stars. We left our seats and went to the italian restaurant. If floors are sticky and service poor how good could the food be? The best restaurant on Main Street in 2014 may now be the worse in 2015.:(

Came here on a Saturday night around 8pm and was seated right away. They have indoor and outdoor seating which is pretty nice. I first thought this restaurant was Irish but then saw our server was wearing a kilt, so we realized it was a Scottish restaurant. Oops! Here's what we ordered: 1. Coconut shrimp: 5/5 it came out in 5 pieces and were huge! I would recommend eating them away because once it cools down it's not as good. 2. French onion soup: 4/5 they were good but I've had some better ones. I did wish it was a little saltier 3. Braveheart burger: 5/5 it includes blue cheese, caramelized onions, an portobello mushroom. I usually don't like portobello mushrooms but you could barely taste it. We had this with a side of spicy fries which made the burger perfect 4. Avocado and Swiss burger: 4/5 this burger was kind of bland. I had to add some pepper, ketchup, and blue cheese crumbles to make it taste better. 5. Fried Milky Way: this came with a side of ice cream. I don't have much of a sweet tooth but I definitely had to take a second bite of this yummy dessert. Side note: I saw that domestic beer was only $2.50 all day everyday!!

I recently visited MacAllisters Grill & Tavern with three other adults. First things first: our server was sloooooow. We arrived very hungry and asked for drinks and bread just after being seated. It took quite some time to arrive. But then, when salads came with most of the meals, everyone was still eating the salad when the entrees arrived. Our food was decent. The chicken pot pie, Drunken Seafood Pasta, and sticky toffee pudding were memorable. We were less impressed with the Rob Roy sandwich and the salmon. Overall, I wasn't that impressed.

This is a great place for seafood and steak. They offer lots of great draft beer on tap and have a large wine selection. I have been several times now and the place is always busy. I highly recommend the place. Oh, if you get the chance, pick on the owner, she enjoys the back and forth.

Having always missed out on the opportunity to try Haggis, it was not very difficult deciding among the restaurants in the pleasant Lakewood Ranch area. We arrived about 5 pm, before the Friday evening rush, and inquired about reserving a table for four for 6 pm while we waited at the bar for another couple to meet us there. We were informed that they did not take reservations, but if we were going to be having drinks at the bar we should check back with the hostess a little before 6 if we saw it getting crowded. Well the bar area was already crowded with people who must have come for the happy hour. We grabbed one of the last two high-tops and ordered a couple of beers - Scottish Stout Draft, and a Belhaven Ale ($3.50/pt happy hour). As suggested, we returned to the hostess before 6 and requested a table for four. We were seated in the main dining room after about 5 minutes and the other couple arrived about 5 minutes later. The first thing that was quite noticeable was how poor the acoustics were in the dining room. Yes, there were two large parties of about 10 people each, but neither group was causing an extraordinary amount of noise. The Haggis & Tatties ($7.99) is served as an appetizer - I doubt that this preparation is close to the traditional preparation. More than likely it is made to please the American taste. They looked like three breaded croquettes. I can't tell you what was inside because all the menu said was "twin Scottish haggis encased in house mashed potatoes, breaded and fried. Served with a rustic scotch and Arran mustard gravy." There was nothing exciting about the flavors. Another favorite of mine that I seldom get to enjoy is Scottish Egg ($7.50). The preparation here was, once again, not what I was expecting. Yes, there was a hard-boiled egg inside, but the egg was not surrounded by just sausage and breading. Instead it seemed like the egg was encased in a mixture of finely granulated sausage and cream cheese. It was then lightly breaded and deep fried. While it was possible to detect some sausage flavor, it was no where as prominent as I've enjoyed in other restaurants. Entrees were an improvement over our apps. Grilled Mahi Mahi ($15.99) was properly prepared and served with rice and broccoli. I was not informed that the Macadamian Nut Sauce that was offered with it had an additional charge ($1.50), and while I had accepted the offer to have the sauce served directly on the fish instead of on the side, it still was served on the side. Overall, this was a very flavorful dish. Our second entree was Salmon Cake at the Turn ($11.25) - two cakes also served with broccoli and rice. The flavors were good, but nothing outstanding. One of the other persons at our table had Diver Scallops with the night's ubiquitous rice and broccoli. They were perfectly sautéed and full of flavor. Of the several desserts that were offered, I was intrigued by Scottish Sticky Toffee Pudding ($5.99) - bread-like pudding with toffee and caramel flavor, served warm with whipped cream topping. Again it was nothing outstanding, it was simply ok. Service was friendly and efficient. Silverware was very spotty and required wiping with a damp napkin to remove the hard water and detergent spots. This was a significant negative from my point of view.
